Emily Wilson will be the first person to receive the IFA/Cranfield John Saull scholarship. Emily is an Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprentice within the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). She is currently working in the DE&S Airworthiness Team at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), the procurement arm of the MOD.
John Vincent, IFA CEO said: “We are extremely pleased to present this award to Emily Wilson. Her enthusiasm for working on engineering and human factors issues came shining through in her application. Congratulations.”
John’s family were delighted to see such a high standard of candidates applying for this scholarship and that it is awarded to Emily such a fitting candidate for the first award.
On accepting this scholarship Emily Wilson said: “I am extremely grateful to be selected to receive the IFA/Cranfield John Saull Scholarship. I’m excited about the opportunity to study at Cranfield University, and would like to thank all those who supported my scholarship application.”
“The course sought to provide an insight into the regulatory framework of aircraft certification and maintenance, as well as the organisations involved in this process and their responsibilities. The lessons highlighted the dynamism of this area of aviation, which is necessary in order to guarantee safety in such a rapidly evolving industry, and both the academic and professional lecturers provided valuable insight from their experiences and various practical scenarios which were extremely instructive.
Airworthiness is also one of the key areas of the Department of Aircraft and Spacecraft in the UPM. It is in this department in which I am currently starting my doctoral studies with Professor Cristina Cuerno-Rejado and seeking to develop a career in aeronautical research.”
This seminar fueled my aviation subject knowledge and gave me a fruitful learning experience. The concepts taught in this course, cleared the air of doubt on what airworthiness is actually all about and how the airworthiness system was structured.
