Join us for the next online IFA event. An interview with Simon Stacey, 2025 winner of the Award for extraordinary work in vertical flight

“Where Next for Vertical Lift?” an interview with Simon Stacey, 2025 winner of the Award for extraordinary work in vertical flight.

Where next for vertical lift? A personal view thru’ an R&D lens. Following receipt of an Award for extraordinary work in vertical flight from the Vertical Flight Society UK Chapter, Leonardo’s Simon Stacey has been invited to reflect on lessons learned in his 36 years (and counting) career executing R&D in the rotorcraft domain. That reflection led to a familiar statement.

From Wiktionary, underneath the proverb “The more things change, the more they stay the same,” is the statement:
“Change of heart must accompany experience before lasting change occurs.”

Using rotor design examples as waypoints, Simon will discuss with IFA Host John Vincent the factors that have shaped his part of the vertical lift ecosystem, and reflect a personal view of how lessons learned should be built on as vertical lift transitions into a net-zero and more accessible future.
