On behalf of the International Federation of Airworthiness, CEO, John Vincent was pleased to present the 2017 IFA `Sir Frank Whittle Safety Award` to Mike Gamlin, Manager – Air Safety Investigations, Rolls Royce Plcat the AAIB Headquarters on Wednesday 20thSeptember. This prestigious award is nominated by the IFA members and honours the work of Sir Frank Whittle, father of the jet engine. It recognises an outstanding contribution to airworthiness.
In recognition of his contribution to aviation safety over more than four decades. In particular the extensive work ensuring the effectiveness of accident investigation across the globe. He is trusted and well respected across the global aviation community.’
Nominated by IFA members, Cranfield University they highlighted that Mike’s integrity, focused on transparent, evidence-based and unbiased investigation techniques to deliver continuous improvement to the Rolls-Royce product and through his inspirational leadership, Mike and his team have built an extensive network of investigation relationships with key international safety investigation agencies, and aircraft and engine manufacturers. They are trusted and respected by their peers both within all levels of Rolls-Royce and across the global accident investigation community. This contributes to the effectiveness of the accident investigation process and therefore aviation safety.
