Vietnam PM orders stronger measures to ensure aviation safety and security

Recent aviation incidents raising concerns about operation safety.

Under his Directive No.21/CT-TTg, dated August 12, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered ministries, agencies, and local authorities to step up aviation safety and security measures in the wake of recent incidents that have raised concerns about operational safety.

The directive also highlighted the Government’s concerns over prolonged flight cancellations and delays that have disrupted airport operations and public order, as well as recent cyberattacks on airline websites that exposed customer data.

Under the directive, Vietnam’s aviation safety and security management systems must meet international standards, while remaining in compliance with domestic regulations. The Prime Minister called for faster digitization and adoption of advanced technologies to enhance oversight, alongside upgrades to aviation infrastructure to ensure safe operations.

The directive also mandates both regular and unannounced inspections of airlines, flight service providers, and airports to improve service quality and ensure aviation safety. Strict penalties will be imposed for any violations that compromise aviation safety.

The Ministry of Public Security has been assigned to lead efforts in preventing acts of terrorism or disruptions targeting airports, aircraft, and other aviation infrastructure.
