Lecture

As technology has developed, the assessment of airworthiness has also undergone massive change. Using his extensive experience in the industry, Lionel will discuss the critical balancing role that the Airworthiness Practitioners play in the development and clearance of past, present and future aircraft technology developments.

Dr Lionel Wallace FRAeS DL, Independent Airworthiness Consultant

Lionel Wallace is a product of the de Havilland/Hawker Siddeley Tech School and a long time Hatfield Branch Member. He has held senior Airworthiness related roles for more than four decades. His career commenced at the Hawker Siddeley facility at Hatfield where he held the role of Chief Airworthiness Engineer for the Hawker 125 product line and subsequently Head of Safety and Certification for the Raytheon Corporate Jets entity. He was a Business Development Executive and Head of Design for Raytheon Systems Limited. Most recently he held the position of Head of Airworthiness and Chief Quality Officer for Lilium GmbH until 2022, working in the eVTOL/Air Mobility sector. He was the inaugural Co-Chair of the EUROCAE Working Group 112 supporting the development of standards for Acceptable Means of Compliance with SC-VTOL. He currently advises on various emerging sustainable aviation technology developments. Lionel is a Deputy Lieutenant, former High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and a Governor at the University of Hertfordshire.
