Stuart is the Chief Surveyor heading the Airworthiness department for the UK CAA. Leading a team of 100+ Airworthiness Surveyors, and technical support staff with safety accountabilities for the 1300+ UK approved Maintenance, CAMO, Production, and training organisations plus aircraft imports, exports and ACAM surveys. Stuart was previously the Airworthiness Manger responsible for the oversight of UK CAMO organisations. The role included managing a team of Airworthiness Surveyors that carry out the initial, changes and continuations of Part-CAMO approvals. Stuart is based at Aviation House, Gatwick. Stuart has been with the CAA for over 12 years, including a short break to be employed at the Bermuda CAA, previous UK CAA roles include Airworthiness Manager-Corporate Aviation, Principal-Governance, Risk and Projects, Principal Airworthiness Surveyor and Airworthiness Surveyor. The Bermuda CAA Airworthiness Inspector role included business development for the authority, for private aircraft on the registry and commercial aircraft operated under Article 83bis agreements. The role included extensive overseas travel and included initiating new Article 83bis agreements in Tajikistan and stakeholder engagement in Russia with both the authority and Russian operators of the Bermuda registered aircraft. Prior to the CAA, Stuart has held roles with aircraft lessor, International Lease Finance Corporation undertaking lease transitions, Astraeus Airlines as a Project and Liaison Engineer that specialised in ACMI operations to worldwide operators, and British Airways as a Supervising/Licensed Engineer specialising in base and casualty maintenance for a range of Boeing, Airbus and BAe aircraft types. Stuart has 36 years of aviation industry experience. Stuart holds an MSc in Aircraft Maintenance Management from City University London, and a UK Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License with several aircraft type ratings. Spare time hobbies include cycling, both road and mountain biking.
