Is test still best?
IFA Comment: Structural testing has always fascinated airworthiness buffs. It’s dramatic stuff: wings straining and breaking; dead birds shooting into airframes and engines; and dummies flailing violently as their seat sled hits the stops. However, manufacturers are increasingly questioning whether ’test is best’, or even necessary, for certification. Their arguments are more than just time and cost.
So, IFA commends EASA for trying to lead this emerging regulatory challenge, with this thoughtful new document, which is available for download and comment on EASA’s website:
