GE send AI 171 engine analysis, Final AAIB report likely in 2 months

- GE Aerospace has completed and submitted its analysis of the engines from Air India Flight AI-171, which crashed in Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025.
- The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has now received all the major technical inputs it was waiting for and is expected to complete its analysis and sequencing of events before issuing a final report in approximately two months.
- Investigators already know that both engines lost thrust because their fuel supply was cut off, but the central unanswered question is why the fuel supply was interrupted.
- Aviation experts quoted in the article stress that the final report must be based on firm evidence rather than speculation. They caution against assigning blame—particularly to deceased crew members—unless the investigation can conclusively establish the cause.
- The article refers to the preliminary AAIB report, which found that the fuel cutoff switches for both engines moved from RUN to CUTOFF one second apart, resulting in a rapid loss of engine power. It also notes the previously reported cockpit voice recording in which one pilot asks the other why the cutoff occurred, and the other replies that they did not do it.
- According to investigators cited by the newspaper, the GE engine analysis is expected to confirm that the engines themselves were not mechanically defective, but rather stopped because they were deprived of fuel. The remaining task is to determine what caused that fuel interruption.
