David Morrison Innovation Award
The Flight Safety Foundation David Morrison Innovation Award, named after one of the Foundation’s founders, honors notable innovation in civil aviation by individuals, teams, or organizations. David Morrison, an inventor who patented the first digital cockpit instrument panel in 1945 and envisioned the moving map display, played a critical leadership role in the Foundation’s early days. The award recognizes achievements in both technological innovation and process transformation.
Jerome Lederer Safety Leadership Medal
The Flight Safety Foundation Jerome F. Lederer Safety Leadership Medal, named after the Foundation’s founder, who was known as “the father of aviation safety,” honors individuals or teams for significant contributions to civil aviation safety. Lederer, who led the Foundation for nearly 20 years, advanced the exchange of safety information, saving countless lives, and later served as NASA’s director of safety. The award recognizes demonstrated organizational or industry leadership and the development of impactful safety programs.
