CAA Publication Notification Service: Certification of Aircraft with Electric Powerplant CRM:001161000007014
IFA Comments: IFA hope that the rule making process to update engineer licensing will be expedited with alacrity. In the coming years powerful electric systems will become a much greater part of engineers work.
There is a small number of Pipistrel electric powered engines maintained by Part CAO organisations. The UK Type Certificate Data Sheet (TCDS) has been accepted by the GAU Design & Certification Team in the UK Type Rating List (SRG 1782) enabling the aircraft rating to be added to an engineer licence. However, there is currently no means for UK licensed engineers to certify this aircraft under Part 66 due to their being no corresponding provision. A rulemaking task RMT.0134 is ongoing to address this gap in the UK Regulation (EU) 1321/2014, Annex lll (Part 66) with the implementation now expected in 2025.
