International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of IFA Honorary member, Brian Perry.

Brian L Perry BSc (Eng), C.Eng, FRAeS, MIET

Brian was a former Vice President (Technical) and an Honorary Fellow of the International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA). He worked as an airworthiness consultant after a long career with the UK Civil Aviation Authority at London Gatwick.

He joined CAA in 1966. He became a senior manager in the Design and Production Standards Department of the CAA. After retirement from the CAA, in Brian’s term as IFA VP Technical, he championed both Initial and Continuing Airworthiness. He contributed to numerous IFA Conferences, was a key advocate of IFA and an enthusiastic IFA Board member.

His influence on the FAA’s Commercial Airplane Certification Process Study (CPS) of 2002, added his experience and knowledge to its technical recommendations.

In recent times, my personal recollection is of visits Brian made to Cologne in the early days of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). His constructive and well-informed advice and support meant a lot. We offer our condolences to his family and friends.
John Vincent IFA CEO

Brian helped to lay the foundations of the airworthiness standards that we have today. As well as being a talented engineer he gave encouragement to colleagues young and old and was good company to be with. He will be sadly missed.
Hazel Courteney IFA President

Brian has been a constant source of inspiration with “all things Airworthiness”.  He was a popular lecturer and contributor on the Cranfield course Safety Assessment of Aircraft Systems, and the source of excellent counsel.  I was particularly glad of his experience as the Chair of the IFA Technical Committee.  Sending sincere condolences to his family.
Dr Simon Place (Senior Lecturer, Cranfield University)
