RAeS Podcast – Airlander 10 – A Future of Zero Emissions Aviation
Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) is the company behind Airlander, the world’s first hybrid aircraft and the future of zero emissions aviation. The first production aircraft, Airlander 10, will deliver up to a 90% reduction in emissions compared to other aircraft in its various roles. Airlander provides a clear pathway to practical zero emissions flight by 2030.
Airlander 10 will deliver a wide variety of benefits within regional mobility, remote logistics, luxury experiential travel and communications & surveillance applications.
In this session HAV’s Chief Technical Officer, Mike Durham, provides insight into the HAV journey so far and HAV’s pathway forward to bring Airlander to market by 2024. The presentation includes use cases of the aircraft and a look at the improved passenger experience with less noise, more space, more windows, and no requirement for a pressurised cabin. Mike will also touch on the scale up of Airlander technology, for an Airlander 50 and an Airlander 200 in the future.
The environment and reducing CO2 emissions is an important topic in aviation today, with the aviation industry forecast to emit 24% of the world’s CO2 by 2050. Mike will delve into the topic of emissions reductions, looking at Airlander’s environmental credentials, our ongoing work with Collins Aerospace and the University of Nottingham to develop electric engines and our planned use of hydrogen to enable zero emissions flight.
